Before we move on to Player Piano, I'd like to start with a quick introduction to Vonngeut's early work, in the form of two of his first published stories:
- "Report on the Barnhouse Effect" (first published in Collier's Weekly on February 11, 1950)
- "EPICAC" (first published in Collier's Magazine on November 25, 1950)
Read these two pieces, along with the three excerpts on the Vonnegut's Rules for Writing page and the Characteristics of Postmodern Literature page, and come prepared to discuss them all on Thursday.
Finally, if you've just joined the class, here's a link to the eight-part documentary on Vonnegut we started watching on the first day. In class, we got through the first five segments, so please watch the last three before Thursday's class:
