Over the next ten weeks, we'll cover eight of Vonnegut's fourteen novels:
Player Piano (1952) — ISBN: 0385333781
Cat's Cradle (1963) — ISBN: 038533348X
God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, or Pearls Before Swine (1965) — ISBN: 0385333471
Slaughterhouse-Five, or the Children's Crusade: A Duty-Dance with Death (1969) — ISBN: 0385333846
Jailbird (1979) — ISBN: 0385333900
Deadeye Dick (1982) — ISBN: 0385334176
Galapagos (1985) — ISBN: 0385333870
Timequake (1997) — ISBN: 0425164349
While new copies of these books have been ordered at both the UC bookstore and DuBois, inexpensive used copies of these books are plentiful. Aside from Amazon and Barnes and Noble used sellers, I highly recommend ABE Books, Powells and Alibris
for good deals on used books, and previous students have also reported
having luck with Half.com. Additionally, while Cincinnati doesn't have
the most thriving book culture, copies of these books routinely turn up
at the local Half Price Books locations (there are four altogether,
including one in KY). When I first started reading Vonnegut, not long after graduating from college, I wound up buying most of his published work in two used book buying binges — first at a store in Falls Church, VA (where I found 4-5 hardcover first editions of books from the 70s and 80s for about $5 a pop) and then at the now-defunct Big Jar Books on 2nd Street in Philadelphia (where I picked up most of the rest for $3-4 a piece). Even with inflation, you're likely to be able to get all of the books for this course used for the cost of just a few of the books in new condition.
